APLH course and exam cost

The cost of our one day licensing law course including your examination fee and course handbook is just £150.00 + VAT. Please note lunch is not included.

Obtaining your licence

After you have attended your personal licence training course and successfully passed your BIIAB examination you will then be ready to apply to your local Councils Licensing Authority for your personal licence to sell alcohol.

There are several Licensing Authorities in the Chelmsford and Essex area, you must apply to the authority where you currently live for your alcohol licence. Local to Chelmsford are as follows;

Personal Licence Chelmsford

An application for a personal licence can be obtained from one of the above Councils. The standard application fee is £37.00 however local Councils have the right to change this fee, so this could vary.

Once you have passed your exam you will also need to apply for a basic Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This can be obtained from www.disclosurescotland.co.uk The cost of a DBS is approximately £25.00. Please be aware that a basic DBS is only valid for 28 days. Once you have received your DBS certificate to prove you have no relevant criminal offences under schedule 4 of the Licensing Act 2003 you will need to send this with your application, original BIIAB certificate,  two passport sized (endorsed) photographs and the appropriate fee to the Licensing Authority where you reside.

Once granted a personal licence is valid indefinitely and can be used anywhere in England & Wales. A personal licence will allow the holder to sell and authorise sales of alcohol, it will also allow the holder to be named on a premises licence as the acting Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) This is the the individual who has overall responsibility for a licensed premises such as a pub, off licence, restaurant, hotel, night club or any premises engaged in the retail sale of alcohol.
